Our youngest puppy is Max, he is currently three and he’s a Shih Tzu.
He goes by many names, including Maximus Prime, Maxman, and the ever popular MAAAXX. He is our only baby who we got from a local family who sell Shih Tzu’s, definitely not a puppy mill. Max is the youngest of our family. He has two doggy sisters, Sissy and Harriet, two kitty sisters, Millie and Miley, and one kitty brother, Frankie. Max is a tiny ball of energy and teases the cat’s in the family, the one’s that allow it, usually Miley and Frankie. His favorite cat is Millie, she’s like the magical unicorn he can never reach.
Max’s favorite chew toy is a cat’s ear if we actually allowed him to eat them.
His favorite toy is ball ball or Mr. Squeaky, which is a tiny basketball with you guess it an annoying squeaker. When he carries ball ball around in his mouth he looks like he has a big orange smile, too cute. When these don’t satisfy him he has rawhides and of course our hands, which he wants the most and is a little concerning. He loves playing tug of war and keep away, which is his favorite.
Max is a tough little man.
He has to be since he is the smallest of our doggies. Sissy towers over him and he frequently passes under her to get the best views. He acts like a little Napolean, show me a small dog who doesn’t. But he knows also he is the low man on the totem pole. It’s cute at dinner time he usually hangs back away from the table unless called upon. But there are times when he gets a front row seat to dinner at least until the other doggies show up.

Nice looking. Cute
Hi,
I have a cross shihtzu/pug called Stanley who will be 3 in June. For about 18 months he occasionally goes wobbly in his back legs and starts to walk like a drunken sailor, it only lasts a few minutes. Occassionanly he will refuse to walk . Please could you tell me about how you fist noticed there was a problem in your little boy? I myself have just had spinal surgery for the exact same problem and the pain is awful you get with it, I’d hate to think of Stanley going through that. I am thinking of getting him some sessions in the local doggie hyropool which I think will help, but the more I read about this the more I’m convinced he has this. I give him cannabis oil which helps him so much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hi Joanna,
Sorry it has taken me a while to respond. We noticed Max’s problem a couple of years ago. Unfortunately we don’t know what caused it. It was wintertime and very slippery. But he was also prone to sleeping under the recliner and could have gotten squashed. He got better after the initial time but the next year slipped on ice and aggravated it. Now he is better again, but not normal. Our vet thinks it is Inter-vertebral Disc Disease or IVDD. Which can cause nerve damage but is ultimately like a herniated disc. He walks for the most part fine but has no control of his bowels and urination. We were lucky to find a vet that does acupuncture. I think that the acupuncture along with rest and medication helped. I would definitely see your vet or a specialist because we were told surgery is an option but it has to be caught early. Like almost at the point when little Stanley starts severe symptoms, which you might have that option since it’s off and on right now. Max was immobile for months both times and wasn’t eligible for the surgery. I hope this helps! If you have anymore questions I am more than happy to help.
