Poor Max has developed some major problems.
In the last year, Max has developed partial paralysis. It’s not sure what happened to him. He could’ve hurt his back in one of his rambunctious adventures or it could be IVDD. What is IVDD or Intervertebral disc disease? It’s where the vertebrae discs of the spinal column either bulge or burst, herniate. These discs press on the nerves through the spine causing pain and even paralysis. In the beginning, he couldn’t walk. We had to keep him on a potty pad to capture his bathroom habits. It was very hard to see this happy energetic doggy in such a state. We had to take Max everywhere with us in his doggy bed we liked to call it his taco shell because it wrapped him up like a little taco.
Max had many Dr’s appointments and drugs to take. Plus bonus he will probably be on them for the rest of his life, Yay. On his road to recovery, he has also had acupuncture treatments which I think were the best thing we could’ve done for him. We also had to find a new groomer who was able to handle his special circumstances.
As Max started feeling better it became harder to contain him. He constantly wanted to jump down off of the couch where we kept him during his recovery. Once he was on the floor he would drag himself by his front legs with his tiny legs following, I gotta say as heartbreaking as this is, it’s also cute as heck. Not to mention he has a new flexibility, I will find his back legs in all sorts of positions. He is making great strides on his road to recovery and we couldn’t be happier.
